Arte aprisionada: uma análise bourdieusiana do rap nas prisões a partir do estudo do caso do grupo 509-E

Abstract

The present study seeks to analyze some relationships between the social fields, especially the RAP, in the prison context, as a field of its own characteristics and as an instrument of transformation and social awareness, based on the case study of the 509-E group. For this, he adopts the notions of Pierre Bourdieu on the field, habitus and capital and those of Loïc Wacquant on ghetto and hyperghetto, explaining how these notions apply in the reality of the economic, prison and art fields. It addresses the influence and dominance that the economic field exerts on the other fields, imposing its competitive logic and producing direct consequences to the fields dominated from its adopted policies. It shows the direct relationship between the decline of the welfare state and the emergence of the penal state that has made the prison population grow exponentially. It also explains how art is understood as a social field with specific habitus and capitals, and how the RAP relationship with that field occurs. Finally, he analyzes some of the songs of the group 509-E, a group of RAP that appears inside the prison to fight for recognition and to criticize the economic system and the prison system. It shows how the RAP represents a voice of denunciation of the violation of fundamental rights suffered in favelas and prisons, especially the right to human dignity. It shows how the 509-E group is an example of the RAP as a social field of its own that has, in others, the symbolic capital of seeking the transformation of the other fields with which it relates.
