O encarceramento da essência: trabalho estranhado e sistema penal na sociedade capitalista

Abstract

Work, as the founding category of the social being, constitutes the most primordial basis by which man creates the world and creates himself. On the other hand, the social being also develops certain historical forms that produce a hostile relationship between the man himself and the work; it is the process of estrangement from work. Moreover, the development of the penal system, also as a historical form, is inherently linked to the development of capitalism and the peculiar way of working itself in this mode of production. The present study seeks to identify how the historical relation between strange work and the penal system is constructed. For this, an analysis is made in four moments of history: the genesis of capitalism, the Industrial Revolution, the period of the "golden years" and the neoliberal years. In this way, it is possible to identify how the penal system contributes to the process of denial of work, conceived in its essence.
