O sistema prisional feminino sob a ótica da perspectiva de gênero

Abstract

This monograph covers the female prison system analyzed from a gender perspective, seeking to answer how sociological construction regarding the role of women interferes in the structure of society, especially in the context of Brazilian prisons. From this point of view, the concept of symbolic violence brought by Bourdieu is presented, in order to corroborate the way in which the social construction that determines the role of inferiority and invisibility of the woman in an imperceptible and invisible way has taken place. In this sense, when analyzing the penal system and how it effectively enforces its sanctions, it is possible to observe the social selectivity with which the norms are applied and it is possible to go further by arguing that the Brazilian prison system is responsible for maintaining and reflect within the prisons the reality of social exclusion - and gender - that occurs outside them. In this perspective, considering that the woman is destined to occupy the private space, which is linked to the deprivation of rights, in the words of Hannah Arendt, and that the middle of the public space is destined exclusively for men, it can be said that punishment of the incarcerated woman occurs in a double way, since in addition to being punished for being a criminal, she is also punished for being a woman who committed a crime, thus a woman who disobeyed the current social order, leaving her space deprivation.
